Interestingly, some of these mediums accord the necessary treatment to the type of passengers onboard. The others also treat all passengers the same.

In the aviation industry, passengers are categorized into 3. And in this article, I am going to take you through all of them for you to know which category you belong to.

Passengers are categorized into

  1. Adults
  2. Children
  3. Infants

These categories of passengers have specific features that made them fall under such a category. These passengers also are entitled to certain treats to make their trip a very comfortable one. Now let’s dive in.

  1. Adults – these types of passengers are persons that are more than 12 years. And it is believed that such persons can take care of their needs around the airports and in the cabin of the aircraft. More especially, when passengers are called to go through security screening, boarding process, fasten and unfasten their seatbelts, able to adhere to security protocols onboard, etc. In addition, adults are allowed to accompany 2 children at a time but 1 infant.
  2. Children – persons within the age of 2 to 11 years 11months falls under the children category. These persons need to be accompanied by an adult passenger. And both of them are to buy a ticket to be on board. Unlike the adult, children have a discount of 25% of the available flight fare. Since the person is a child, he/she is required to sit on a seat for the entire flight duration. He/she must have his/her seat belt fastened at all times and be assisted by the accompanied adult passenger.
  3. Infant – Infants are considered as persons within the age of day 1 to 1 year 11months. Yes! Such persons can be accepted on board the plane but unless they attain the age of 2 weeks and must be accompanied by an adult. Unlike adults and children, infants are not entitled to a seat in a plane and due to this, infants enjoy a 90% discount on the available fare. Accompanying adults laps the infant throughout the duration of the flight.

Due to the fragile nature of the infant, the slow movement of the child, and how handicap an accompanying adult will be when accompanying them, they are not allotted a seat in the emergency row.

Now I believe, you have now known the various categories of passengers and which category you belong to.

Among these 3 main types of passengers, they are further classified into groups and these groups are determined by nature, the personality of the passenger, and the kind of assistance they made need. These groups are but not limited to Incapacitated persons, inadmissible persons, Unaccompanied minors, Very Important Personalities (VIPs), Commercial Important Personalities (CIPs) Deportees, etc
